After a year of waiting, Marvel's Runaways is back.
And, sadly, since this is the final run for the show, we expected them to go out with a bang. Which, considering where it left off in 2018, the Runaways' were set up for a crazier than ever season.
So, did the start of their last journey live up to the hype?
Marvel's Runaways Season 3 Episode 1, Marvel's Runaways Season 3 Episode 2, and Marvel's Runaways Season 3 Episode 3 were a quality start to an already action-packed season with the promise of greatness.
The fates of Karolina, Chase, Gert, and Janet were not looking so good at the start of the season. But, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the Runaways came together to save their friends.
Well, thankfully with Gert being Gert, she was able to save herself and Old Lace just in time to join up with the others to save their friends in the pods.
Nico: What is my mom doing?
Molly: Channeling 2012 Miley Cyrus?
And, while they were successful in breaking Chase and Karolina out, Janet decided honorably to sacrifice herself and stay in the algorithm. But, apparently, she is now finally happy for some reason?
Oh well, at least all the Runaways finally reunited. Even though Chase was still in the doghouse for his betrayal and there was the case of finding out who the fourth alien was.
Okay, yes, Chase can be an idiot at times, even though he is a genius with technology. But, he also has a huge heart.
The reason he left on Marvel's Runaways Season 2 was semi-valid. He thought his father was dying. However, Gert and the rest of the Runaways were also semi-valid with their anger towards him.
It's a tricky situation, but now that he has returned and he is on their side, they should be able to come together to talk and make things right. And by them, I mean Gert and Chase.
Chase: Gert, you're not real. I'd know that even without this weird thing happening to you because you haven't talked about the patriarchy or gender bias or microaggression once since I got here.
Gert: I need you to save me!
Chase: See? That's exactly how I know you're not real. Real Gert never needed saving.
They have been through a lot together and care about one another so much. Chase even told Gert's parents that he loved her. It is time for open communication between the two instead of holding in all their feelings -- which they are famous for.
But, of course, making up on the first few episodes would probably not make for good television so the writers will continue to torture us with the tension between the exes.
On the other hand, Deanoru seemed to be sailing smoothly with Karolina's dream of their wedding and with their declarations of love to one another.
Even though Xavin was still in the picture, it was clear that Karolina never thought of leaving Nico for a second.
Karolina: No. No, Nico please don't go.
Nico: Hey, listen.
Karolina: Please don't go.
Nico: I'll come back for you, okay?
Karolina: Alright. I-I lamp you!
And with Nico's growing powers and her inkling that she could be the fourth alien, Karolina never left her side or stopped believing in her.
Thankfully Karolina was right, and Nico was not the fourth alien, but more on that later. For now, hopefully, Karolina and Nico will continue to have no drama for the rest of the final episodes.
Well, a girl can dream.
The other dynamic that has so far been a joy to watch is Molly and Xavin.
Who would have thought that Molly would be the one to teach Xavin more about what it means to be human? Well, when you think about it, it makes sense. Molly is the most innocent of the Runaways and arguably has the biggest heart of them all.
It is a delight to see as Xavin has mostly spent her time trying to protect Karolina and overall acting like a warrior. Molly is helping to bring out another side of her that makes her that much more likable.
We are here for strong female friendships!
Plus, the scene where Xavin tries to smile at Molly and the scene where Molly tries to teach Xavin how to sleep are both going to go down as two of the best scenes in the show's history.
After three episodes of trying to figure out who the fourth alien -- Jonah's son -- was, we finally know that Alex was the one who was inhabited.
It was shocking, to say the least, as Alex had tried relentlessly to save Chase, Karolina, and Janet from the pods. But, Jonah's son has been described as a psychotic killer, so maybe he's a good actor as well?
The writers tried to throw us a red herring with Nico believing that she was the fourth alien, but she has her own problems to work out.
Plus, it makes sense when you think about how ruthless Alex has been as of late. As Catherine said, he was becoming more and more like her each day.
Speaking of Alex's mother, we officially have our first major death of the season.
But, she will not be missed all that much, by the viewers or by the characters on the show besides Geoffery.
Catherine: You think you got justice?
Alex: Well you're sitting in front of me in a orange jumpsuit instead of a red robe, so yeah. I'd say justice was served.
Catherine killed Darius in cold blood. Of course, people are never black and white, and it was clear that she loved her son, but she was still a murderer. It is hard to feel bad for her.
However, what was shocking was that Tamar was the one who ordered the hit on her.
There is just a vicious cycle of murder that seems to be neverending on Marvel's Runaways no matter how hard the kids try to stop it.
So what did you think Marvel's Runaways Fanatics?
Did you guess that Alex was the fourth alien?
Do you love how funny this season has been in light of all the dark themes they are exploring?
