When you watch American Crime Season 1 Episode 8, you're heart will break when you see how sick people can be. Aliyah organizes a peaceful protest to garner more attention on Carter's case and try to get it looked at because she feels like they are jumping the gun on things. As the group grows larger, concerns are made about how to accommodate all of the people, but Aliyah's isn't worried. When they go to get the permit for the protest they are met with resistance and are told they can gather at a park which is outside of Modesto and not even near the police station where they want their voices heard. The group eventually decides to continue on with their protest in the streets of Modesto. Meanwhile, Barb is determined to have her own counter protest, but is met with some less than savory characters. Nancy tells Barb she doesn't need to have these bigots and racists with her to march because her being out there by herself will speak volumes. As they are talking, Barb makes the realization she is racist and is actually sickened by this notion. At the march, Barb and Nancy are standing by themselves while Aliyah and her group are peacefully protesting. As they are marching down the streets, they are being yelled out by the unsavory characters, but they ignore and continue on until a gunshot is heard and the police go after the group.
