Keep Your Friends Close
Recap
Assistant United States Attorney William Flanagan approaches Marissa to have TAC help convict Malcolm Swift of hacking air traffic control at LaGuardia International Airport and almost causing two jetliners to collide.
Malcolm’s pregnant girlfriend, Sarah, happens to be an old friend of Cable’s. She begs Cable to help because she swears that Malcolm is innocent and is being set up. Cable tells Bull that Sarah approached her, but promises not to have contact with her again.
But when Sarah says she’s pregnant, and says she has proof that Malcolm’s signature is not the same as was used for the hack, and offers Cable a thumb drive of his signature to compare, Cable takes the thumb drive.
When Cable is given access to the FBI servers to check Malcolm’s signatures, she uses Sarah’s thumb drive. It shows that the signature is a 100% match to Malcolm’s, and then, to Cable’s shock, it begins to delete everything from the FBI’s server.
Cable is arrested for tampering with evidence and faces up to five years in prison while Malcolm is set free. The judge declares a mistrial with prejudice due to prosecutorial misconduct.
When Cable mentions the word JANET kept showing up in Malcolm’s code, Marissa uncovers the Joint Air Network Employee Transportation - a top secret airline code used by United States Air Force to fly the most important military personnel in the country. It turns out that the air traffic control hack was just a diversion in order to be able to hack JANET and then sell the information to the highest bidder.
Bull uses Cable’s information, and the thumb drive, to broker a deal for her. The evidence is used to charge Malcolm for the JANET hack and Cable is set free. When Bull pick up Cable as she is released from jail, he tells her that she’s fired.
