The team is only a few steps behind modern day pirates (iincluding the great-granddaughter of the pirate captain) seeking the treasure as well. They want it so badly they killed for it. But once the treasure is discovered, the team finds it isn't much of a treasure after all.

Kono and Adam had their dream wedding, but their honeymoon is postponed thanks to Gabriel (Chin's former brother-in-law) holding them hostage. He wants Adam's money. But if Adam signs it over, he will be killed. That money is supposed to buy his freedom from the Yakuzah. Adam had long ago decided to give up his ties to them for Kono. Once the funds were transferred, Kono had escaped and rushed into the bank too late. Gabriel then shot Adam and got away. Now if Adam survives the gunshot wound it won't matter as Kono tells Steve and the guys that since the money's gone and Gabriel's gone, she and Adam are as good as dead.
