Law & Order: SVU Season 21 Episode 4 asks questions about what happens when abortion is not legal in all 50 states.

13-year-old Evangeline Miller boards a bus to New York from Ohio without her parents' permission. When SVU finds her, she tells them she is pregnant and wants an abortion. However, her parents come to New York to get her, along with her pastor, and she is afraid to tell any of them about her pregnancy.

Evangeline claims to have turned her back on God but admits she had sex she didn't want to have, and a doctor says that she has been sexually abused for at least two years. Aware that Evangelina's parents will take her back to Ohio to stop the abortion, Benson gets an order to put her in foster care temporarily.

In family court, as the family dukes it out with the cops, Evangalina says her stepfather raped her and is the father of her baby. The family denies it, insisting that she is making this up to avoid going home with them.

The judge is about to rule in Evangelina's favor regarding the abortion when a DA from Ohio shows up and issues arrest warrants for everyone, including the judge, for conspiracy to murder the unborn baby.

That case is quickly thrown out, but the abortion case is up in the air. Evangelina throws herself down the steps, leading to a confrontation with her mother.

Meanwhile, the SVU squad welcomes a new detective, Kat Tamim, which will hopefully leave them less short-staffed, but Kat has a hard time staying calm during the case.
