Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 6 focuses on the damage fake videos can do over social media.
A crazed intruder breaks into Mike B's house, tases him, and wraps a towel around his head after watching conspiracy theorist Shawn Olsen claim that Mike is suffering from delta wave poisoning thanks to 5G-capable phones. Soon, there is a worse problem because Olsen reposts a fake video depicting Elizabeth calling the President of South Korea naive and dumb.
The South Korean leader is quickly convinced the video isn't real, but he is afraid to go ahead with the trade deal because he only won by a slim margin and fears he will lose approval ratings if he works with Elizabeth.
Henry works on the South Korean First Lady to try to get the situation resolved, while Elizabeth and her staff try to get the video removed. When the CEO of Ur-Vid refuses to remove the fake video on free speech grounds, Elizabeth tries to get a liberal FTC chief confirmed so that they can regulate digital media, but the Senate Majority Leader says she needs Hansen's help to do that. However, Hansen tells Morejon he won't help because he considers Elizabeth to be a socialist and wants to unseat her.
Meanwhile, Stevie struggles with her feelings when Dmitiri tells her he is leaving the country and Griffin wants to be exclusive.
