Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 10 again features Julio's foster son, Mark. Mark still doesn't want to deal with non-whites, though he softens considerably when he is reunited with his favorite children's book. Despite their rocky start, Julio cares deeply about the boy and tries his best to protect him from the people who murdered his mom.

Apparently Ava, Mark's mother, was in witness protection after testifying against a white supremacist, neo-Nazi group who was into murdering interracial couples. The DA is desperate to connect this case to the Dwight Darnell case, which he is trying. Darnell is accused of the murders.

Rusty comes up with an idea to find a suspect based on his own past, but expects that he will be rewarded by being allowed to sit in on Buzz's interview with the man who killed his father and uncle. Meanwhile, Julio's protectiveness of Mark may interfere with proceeding in the case against his mother's killer and Mark shows himself to be a scared little boy after all when he doesn't understand why he can't wait for his mom to come home.
