Clayton Reeves is at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting when a friend from the group, Melissa, approaches him and explains that she just split from her abusive boyfriend. After the meeting, however, Reeves is shocked and horrified when he witnesses Melissa being forcibly kidnapped right in front of him and he is unable to help. Gibbs and the team leap to his immediate assistance, juridiction being of no concern to them in such an instance, though Reeves is hesitant to reveal his very personal struggles with alcohol addiction and how they relate to the manner in which he knows the victim. The team is well aware that in any kidnapping case, the first few hours are critical, and they throw all their knowledge and expertise into figuring out who would take Melissa, why, and where. The first step is, of course, figuring out who Melissa is, since Reeves doesn't even know her last name despite how close they are.
