When you watch SWAT Season 1 Episode 2 "Cuchillo" both SWAT and Mumford's team go after a dangerous criminal Jesse Ramirez aka "Cuchillo" who has broken out of custody and taken a young girl hostage. Street is forced to wise up after he puts the team in jeopardy during a training exercise. The team learns about his dark past and Chris is tasked with bringing him into SWAT family. Hondo makes an error in the field, ignoring Deacon's suggestion and letting a suspect escape. He admits to trying to prove himself and vows to take the team's thoughts into greater consideration. Meanwhile Hicks has made his desire to oust Hondo obvious to both Deacon and Jessica, going as far as admitting that he promoted Hondo in order to ease racial tensions in the city. Jessica is willing to continue her relationship with Hondo, but makes him swear to keep it a secret.
