In the Muppets Season 1 Episode 1, the laughs are as sharp as the characters are soft. The show is shot in a Modern Family-style mockumentary format, complete with cutaway interviews and "candid" scenes. The gang is working together on a new show, Up Late With Miss Piggy, but finding the star to be a little tempramental. Case in point: the day before a show, she demands that the guest, Elizabeth Banks, be bumped from the lineup. Kermit, acting as executive producer, pushes back against her demands but finds it hard to work with her now that the two are no longer a couple. For his part, Kermit is dating a pig named Denise, who indulges his anxiety and increasing use of cream-based pasta dishes as a stress reliever. Meanwhile, Fozzie Bear embarks on a new relationship with a human woman (Riki Lindhome) and is desperate to please her judgmental parents. The rest of the Muppet gang is also around, complete with Sam The Eagle as the hypervigilant head of standards and practices, and Electric Mayhem as the late night band taking the greatest advantage of California's medical marijuana laws.
