On This Is Us Season 4 Episode 6, several characters grapple with questions of identity and change.
Randall wants to make a connection with his fellow councilmen and invites them to use a golf course he is connected to. The councilmen invite him to play golf and he is terrible at it.
Meanwhile, in the flashback storyline Jack takes him golfing after he tells him that Mr. Lawrence said Tiger Woods would change the game forever. But Randall gets upset when Jack tries to relate to his feelings about being the only black kid on the debate team by talking about feeling like he didn't fit in at a country club in the past.
In the far distant past, Jack goes golfing with Rebecca's father, who makes it clear he disapproves of Jack having a blue collar job and tries to set him up on an interview with a rich friend. Jack declines and proceeds to get drunk during the game. After taking him back to the house, Dave says Jack is not good enough for Rebecca and Jack almost gets into a fight with him, but Rebecca intervenes.
Elsewhere, Kate and Toby get Rebecca and Miguel to babysit so they could have some time alone, but get into an argument after Toby can't perform and Kate wonders if he's still attracted to her now that he's lost all his weight. And Kevin and Cassidy end up kissing after Cassidy comes to see him after a fight with her husband.
