21 Male Characters Who Couldn't Take No for an Answer

at .

On both television and real life, some men refuse to understand what the word "no" means.

Whether the situation is romantic, sexual, or otherwise, the inability to respect a person's wishes is an unattractive quality in itself.

Not only are these type of people toxic, but they can also be dangerous.

We created a slideshow below of 21 male characters who couldn't take no for an answer.

1. Fred Waterford - The Handmaid's Tale

The Commander doesn't care about consent. Besides having non-consensual sex with her every month to produce a child, he also held her down and raped her while she begged him to stop. There are not many characters that are worse than Fred Waterford.

2. Chuck Bass - Gossip Girl

Although many people try to, it's impossible to forget that Gossip Girl's pilot episode showcased Chuck trying to rape two main characters on two separate occasions. Considering that he tried to commit two crimes in one day, who's to say Chuck hasn't succeeded in the past? If a Gossip Girl reboot is happening, please leave Chuck out of it.

3. Michael Scott - The Office

Michael just had a problem with the word "no" in general. Whenever his employees didn't want to do something that made them uncomfortable he continued to push them into it.

4. Joe Goldberg - YOU

Joe did everything in his power to make Beck want to be with him and even obsessively stalked her for months. He murdered her ex-boyfriend and best friend because they interfered with his relationship with Beck, and he ended up killing her.

5. Ross Geller - Friends

Ross wouldn't take "no" for an answer no matter what the situation was. While he did act as if he had a claim on Rachel, he also felt he should always have what he wanted in their relationship. The time Rachel told Ross he couldn't come to her work, yet insisted on doing it anyway was what led to their "break" in the first place.

6. Harvey Specter - Suits

Harvey said himself, "I never take no for an answer." That's a pretty toxic mindset to have, and it shows his lack of respect for other people's boundaries.

7. Bryce Walker - 13 Reasons Why

Bryce Walker is a horrible guy altogether, but it stems from the fact that he feels entitled to take whatever he wants. What he did to both Hannah and Jessica is horrifying, and his insistence that Hannah "wanted it" makes it even worse.

8. Charles Brooks - Younger

Most people love Charles, so there's bound to be some controversy over this one. Even though Charles has some good qualities and gave up a lot to be with Liza, we can't forget some of the things he said in the past. The time he screamed at Liza because she was with a 40-year-old that wasn't him comes to mind.

9. Perry Wright - Big Little Lies

Perry had no respect for his wife and got physical with Celeste when she said things he didn't like. When Jane told him she didn't want to sleep with him, Perry didn't care and proceeded to rape her. We couldn't be happier that he's gone.

10. Barney Stinson - How I Met Your Mother

When pursuing a girl, Barney views the word "no" as a suggestion rather than an obligation to back off. His goal is to change her mind or just get her drunk enough that she doesn't care.

11. Noah Bracken - Roswell, New Mexico

Noah was obsessively in love with Rosa even though she wanted nothing to do with him. He even tried to pursue her in his future wife's body and ended up killing her when she refused him.

12. Xander Harris - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Xander wouldn't accept that Buffy didn't want to be with him and he started annoying everyone around him. Not only was he disrespectful to Buffy, but he was disrespectful towards Willow as well.

13. Tom Haverford - Parks and Recreation

Tom may have been a funny addition to Parks and Rec, but he had a bad habit of trying to wear people down until they eventually cracked. Whether it was concerning a woman or not, Tom thought he had the power to change everyone's mind.

14. Archie Andrews - Riverdale

No matter what the situation is, Archie refuses to accept defeat. While perseverance can be a positive thing, Archie isn't always in the right and his stubbornness can get him and his friends into trouble.

15. Nate Jacobs - Euphoria

Nate is a sociopath who gets off on manipulating situations for his own benefit. Whether he’s threatening his girlfriend or the person he’s been catfishing, he will not take no for an answer. More frightening is that he will use violence to get his point across. Yup, he’s the new Norman Bates.

16. Gregory House - House

The best way to describe House is by saying he's arrogant and prideful. He thinks he knows better than everyone else, and in all fairness, he often does. But the way he goes about it makes him come off more like a stubborn know-it-all than anything else.

17. Lucious - Empire

Lucious does whatever he wants and has no regard for anyone else's wishes. "No" isn't even in Lucious' vocabulary, and it's rare to see him care about someone other than himself.

18. John Dutton - Yellowstone

John Dutton never needs permission to do anything. He's the kind of person who will always follow his gut, even if it means doing something reckless.

19. Damon Salvatore - The Vampire Diaries

Damon wants what he wants when he wants it. Sure, there are a few moments over the seasons when Damon showed some restraint, but he also killed Elena's brother because she rejected him. There was also the time Katherine took over Elena's body and broke up with him, and he decided to kidnap all her friends. He's not really boyfriend goals when you think about it.

20. AJ Austin - The Resident

He may be an impressive surgeon, but AJ seems to think there's nothing he can't do. His pride has gotten in the way on more than one occasion, and with the exception of Mina, he doesn't take anyone else's opinions or thoughts to heart.

21. Alex Crawford - The Bold Type

We love Alex and we appreciated his ability to recognize his shortcomings and take responsibility for his actions. But he did continue to pressure a girl into having sex with him and was unable to grasp just how uncomfortable she was. It wasn't that he ignored a "no," it was that he tried to stop her from ever saying it. But Alex learned from his mistake and published an article owning up to what he did and why it was wrong.
