NCIS Round Table: "Flesh and Blood"

at .

We broke it down for you in our review of "Flesh and Blood." Now we're delving deeper into last night's NCIS in our staff's weekly Round Table discussion of topics ...

1. What was your favorite NCIS quote from last night?

The Barnacle: Abby: "Maybe Tony didn't have a mother. Maybe he was cloned!"

Dr. Shepherd: Tie between Tony's uncharacteristically pathetic "I needed a closer relationship," and Gibbs calling Ziva a "smart-ass" for knowing constitutional trivia.

M.L. House: Normally DiNozzo produces my favorite NCIS quotes, but I liked that his dad threw him so far off his game that the class clown had nothing all night.

2. Was Robert Wagner what you expected as Tony Sr.?

M.L. House: From the previews and the opening minutes last night, you got a sense of the complicated relationship between the two and Wagner delivered it with flying colors. Even his touching “I love you, Anthony" at the end seemed somewhat strained.

Dr. Shepherd: Yes. While Gibbs and his dad also aren't on the best terms, they are bluntly honest. Tony Sr. and Tony Jr. thrive (or flounder) with jokes and awkwardness. Perfect.

The Barnacle: He was great. I totally believed he was Tony's dad. Fun fact #1: Michael Weatherly played a younger Wagner in the 2004 movie The Mystery of Natalie Wood. Fun fact #2: Weatherly's own wealthy family disapproved of his career choice.

3. Did Tony do the right thing bailing out his dad?

The Barnacle: Yes. He's a good, honest guy at heart, younger Tony, and watching his dad be publicly humiliated isn't in his blood, despite the good game he (always) talks.

M.L. House: Even though I wanted to see Senior try to wriggle out of it, I was glad to learn Tony bailed him out with that gesture (only after Gibbs deduced it, I might add).

Dr. Shepherd: He did. Although I wonder if Tony Sr. figured it out ... and Tony Jr. knew Tony Sr. figured it out. Both had classic, unconvinced looks on their faces. I also love that Gibbs knew in about five seconds that Tony pulled a fast one.

4. Was this week's murder-mystery up to par?

Dr. Shepherd: I liked it for the exchanges between the Saudi royal family members and our own country, and the conflict some have with Western culture in general.

M.L. House: It wasn't as suspenseful as some weeks, though we were led to believe Tony's father was even shadier than he turned out to be, so that added intrigue.

The Barnacle: Not among the show's best, but the integreation of Tony's dad into the plot was great. Character subtleties and dynamics are just as good sometimes.

NCIS Season 7 Episode 12 Quotes

Abby: Maybe Tony didn't have a mother. Maybe he was cloned!
Ducky: There certainly is a strong familial resemblance.

Tony: I've heard the saying "he got blown out of his shoes", but I never thought I'd see it.
Ducky: Now if the explosion had knocked his socks off, that would be impressive, wouldn't it?
