Losing Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders must have been a huge blow for fans of the series, and it has now been announced that one of the characters will be making their way to Criminal Minds Season 13.
Special Agent Matt Simmons will join the BAU since Daniel Henney has been added to the veteran crime solver as a series regular.
If you watch Criminal Minds online, you will likely remember Henney's character assisting the team with the releases of Dr. Spencer Reid following his arrest in Mexico.
The whole arrest plot and subsequent prison plot was a stretch too far for the series, and we're sure the powers that be will have it rectified by the time the show returns.
Henney's casting comes on the heels Damon Gupton being let go after just one season as a series regular. The reason for Gupton's dismissal has not been disclosed, but upon this casting announcement, it's likely to make room for the franchise veteran.
Many have questioned whether it could have anything to do with A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness having their salaries increased to achieve salary parity with their male co-stars. That's highly unlikely.
The ladies were ready to walk from the series if they did not get what they wanted and rightfully so. The show would not be the same without the pair, so we're happy they are signed for the upcoming season.
We have no idea whether Gupton will return as a guest to close up his storyline, but we should have more clarity on that as the season grows closer.
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was canceled last month by CBS after two seasons of low ratings. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 2 averaged just 5 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.
The series shed 33 percent in the all-important adults 18-49 demo v. Season 1.
