Blood Drive will not be returning for another season of fun on Syfy.

According to a blog post by series creator James Roland, the cabler has pulled the plug on the drama series after just one season.

"Unfortunately, your suspicions are correct. Syfy has canceled Blood Drive after one season. If this news makes you angry or sad, you’re not alone. I found out not too long ago, but have been trying to think of a way to tell you guys since I felt it was up to me to let the fans know," he wrote.

"Ultimately I decided to wait until after the final episode aired, so the news did not taint your experience. It simply didn’t seem right to burst the bubble so early, especially with how the last episode plays out."

"We always planned for a season two, but now that the future of the show is uncertain the final scenes seem so much more … final."

Despite the show being canceled, the creator is optimistic that the show will return in some form down the line.

"There’s definitely no season two in the immediate future, but I remain cautiously optimistic there’s more story to tell in this world. NBC|Universal owns the show so when the time comes I’ll approach them with some ideas, and we’ll see what they think," he said.

Low ratings are thought to be what ultimately led to the show's premature cancellation. Blood Drive Season 1 is averaging just 0.5 million viewers and a 0.1 rating.

It's not too far away from what the other Syfy shows are averaging, but Dark Matter was given the ax last week after three seasons and similar ratings.

The season finale aired this week on the network, and for now, it will have to serve as a series finale.
