Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10 Review: I Can Work With You

at .

It is all rainbows and flowers until someone overhears your happy news and makes us all as conflicted as ever.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend deserves major props for their ability to make us care about both sides of a love triangle equally, but what happens when a choice gets made?

That is definitely where the whole "why choose" conversation comes in because that is the real dilemma in all of this.

Paula's Party - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10

During Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10, Rebecca babysits Hebecca and through it connects more with her.

But it is when Greg comes over that the two finally talk about their feelings and get together officially.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel and Josh bond while trying to win the game night.

The night takes a turn though when Nathaniel overhears Rebecca filling Paula in on how happy she is to be with Greg again.

And Paula is secretly celebrating her graduating law school until she finally realizes that it is worth telling her friends about her accomplishment.

"I Can Work With You," written by Rachel Specter & Audrey Wauchope, saw a few characters make significant progress from where there were when initially introduced.

There was a real balance of humor mixed with honest emotion as Rebecca tried to bond with Hebecca and Greg tried to let his feelings lead him to his possible future.

There was a heartwarming aspect to so much happiness being passed around so easily this time around, which can be said without even mentioning that group effort on Josh's selfie game.

That was just a genius little moment of comedy that served as a reminder of why Paula wanted to celebrate with her people.

And then there is Nathaniel breaking all our hearts collectively; there are no words about what might come next with that.

Rebecca and Josh (and Nathaniel)

How to accurately describe a relationship that makes your heart so happy?

It was harder to root for Rebecca and Josh the first time around. Perhaps it was the way that they worked, but how much of that came from the pain they were both nursing?

This time around so much of who they are together is them being honest about their feelings and wanting to talk things out in a healthy way. There is still pain, but each of them is taking steps to work on it instead of hiding it away.

Rebecca and Hebecca - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10

Skylar Astin definitely adds to this new and improved Greg; the shift in casting makes the way that Greg plays to his feelings seem more real.

It is indeed a different person in front of us whose first instinct is to improve himself and to push for positivity, but that adds a bright layer to the season as a whole which is all about progress.

The only worry is that we are about halfway through the season, which means the happy ending isn't exactly happy yet.

And on the one hand, because this season is about moving to a better place for everyone before the show ends, there is no reason to believe that Greg and Rebecca won't make it just for the sake of drama.

Maybe we could be the best versions of ourselves if we are together.

That doesn't have to be it at all, in fact, it could be the complete opposite.

But obviously, there is still the worry that too much time and conflict from the outside that could ruin things. They still have a long way to go, and if this better together idea doesn't work out, it will be crushing.

But on the other hand, there is the chance that Rebecca will end the series alone or will be with Nathaniel or Josh or literally anyone else. It's a daunting thought, but it is all about Rebecca's mental health and her choice for her future.

I just came over to see Rebecca. Nothing more than that happened. Hey, can I wash some of these toys? No reason. I just want to help out and wash some of these floor toys for you.

She doesn't have to be with Greg just because they work and she has faith in them. There is still plenty of time for them to figure out how they work (or don't work) before making any final commitment.

The potential just looks so soft and wonderful that the idea of them not working out after all this feels very cruel.

Nathaniel and Josh Coming Together

But then there is Nathaniel -- he complicates the situation beyond belief.

Nathaniel and Josh Team Up - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10

Honestly, it is great to see the way that all of the guys in Rebecca's life are bonding in one way or another, even if some of them still have feelings for her.

It makes sense for them to be able to form friendships; they like the same girl so why wouldn't they have an energy that could work together?

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is doing great in that respect because it doesn't just play into the expected tropes with love triangles when this feels much more real.

Josh: This is three names. First is a creature from an animated movie and the last one is another movie, not animated, about a guy who is super smart and speaks in an accent.
Nathaniel: What?

Even if they all dated Rebecca, there can still be room for Nathaniel and Josh and Greg just to be friends if they want to.

For all that Nathaniel speaks about being good now, he really is good when he lets himself have friends and figures out how it could make sense without being too extra.

Nathaniel and Josh didn't need to all of a sudden plan days to hang out, but the bare minimum of figuring out the game -- and even Nathaniel offering to help Josh with his selfie -- came a long way.

Speak softly. Feed frequent snacks. Give them something to suck on? Wow, you know some of this works for adults too.

And like always, Rebecca doing her own thing means Josh needs to fit in somewhere else outside of her love interest.

The happy medium of spending time with friends and making new ones, all while not intruding too much in Rebecca's journey is the perfect way to follow through with the character.

Maybe Greg, Josh, and Nathaniel could all go to the gym together?

Back to Nathaniel though, he is the only one who hasn't moved on from Rebecca but also can't be with her anymore. It's a strange place for him to be in because, if anything, he became what Rebecca wanted, but it was too late.

Thankfully, the potential for him to regress back to who he was is less likely.

Paula's Game Night - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 Episode 10

So where does this leave him?

Nathaniel was approached well in this episode, while still making it clear that he just isn't going to accept things as they are now. He can't break them up, but maybe he still has time to throw his hat into the ring.

He came a long way, that doesn't mean that he needs to be the biggest person and move on. It also doesn't mean that Greg and Rebecca need to end because Nathaniel wants to be with her too.

Obviously the idea of them all dating is a useless one, although I will mention it to make myself feel better.

In the end, though, Nathaniel had incredible growth so it is almost easy to forgive whatever he might try to do with the new information he has.
