Law & Order: SVU Season 22 Episode 1 takes on the racial tensions between police and citizens of color.

When a White woman calls the cops on a Black man in Central Park for no apparent reason, uniformed officers violently arrest him, then claim he has warrants out. Soon, the woman's son finds an unconscious guy in the woods and it turns out he was raped, so SVU is called in.

Fin doesn't like this, but Benson says since Javon has warrants he should be taken in and questioned about the rape.

Javon soon turns out to have an alibi, and is incredulous when the cops ask him to help ID another suspect. He doesn't want anything more to do with them. Soon afterward, he sues Benson and Fin.

Garland sends Benson to IAB and warns Fin that everyone must watch their backs. Meanwhile, the cops question and arrest Murphy, but his lawyer shows up.

Garland decides Fin should appear before the grand jury instead of Benson. But the grand jury questions Fin about a previous incident in which he shot a Black suspect and Murphy manages to come off as a victim of police brutality too.
