Helix Season 2 Episode 13 Review: O Brave New World

at .  Updated at .

That wraps up another unique and unpredictable season of Helix!

While there were a couple of twists I saw coming on Helix Season 2 Episode 13, the set up for a potential Season 3 was definitely not one of them. After everything she went through, Sarah's baby didn't make it. That bummed me out big time.

Hey, at least Kyle survived and I pegged him as a goner very early on. Overall, I think Helix Season 2 was well thought out and came together much more efficiently than last season. Would I tune in again for another go? Hellz yeah! #RenewHelix

Yup Julia shot Alan, but she patched him up too. Meanwhile, Sarah and Kyle were still trying to figure out a way off the island. The Season 2 finale was very much a "part 2" episode, continuing last week's storylines.

Well mostly, we also checked back in with Amy and Landry. How the hell did she survive?

Peter and Anne hatched a plot to bring Mother to Ilaria and steal Julia's thunder. Can those two get any crazier? Sure their motivation makes sense (to them), but I've lost interest in this part of the show. Peter's got to go is all I kept thinking to myself. I mean, I love Neil Napier and all, but I don't particularly like what the writers gave him to work with this season.

I wondered if little Soren would be the one to take Peter out; sadly not.

Kyle: Hey, I know we were real close to getting out of here. I'm disappointed too, but nothing's going to stop us from going home.
Soren: Us maybe, but not my mom.
Kyle: I know Soren. I wish things were different.
Soren: It's not fair, Peter killed my mom. Someone should kill him too.

The flash forward to thirty years later surprised me. We hadn't had one of those for several episodes now, but I guess we needed the scoop on Caleb since this was the finale. Would my guess pay off? Was he Sarah and Alan's son? Not so much, I was so wrong about that one.

Speaking of which, the kid got Peter good while the villain explored the tunnels.

So bizarre that Hatake's sword contained the recipe for the TXM-7 virus. I will say, that all the way back in my Helix Season 2 Episode 3 review, I theorized that perhaps Hatake engineered the TXM-7 virus.

Again, Caleb asked Julia that infamous question "Do you know the way to San Jose?" Did he expect her to break out into song? Can you imagine a Helix musical?

Caleb: Before I show you something, do you know the way to San Jose?
Julia: Yes I do.

I don't think anyone would have guessed the answer was connected to Alan and Julia's wedding day. Either way, Caleb turned out to be Soren. Did he have to pull out the fake eyeball though? Ugh!

In the present, Sarah agreed to work for Ilaria in exchange for safe passage off the island. Meanwhile, Alan took off with Mother. I got the feeling things were not going to end well for Alan and Jules this season. Again, totally wrong on that one. The writers do a great job of throwing us off.

I kept wondering what Amy wanted with the baby. Then those creepy toothless mothers from the birthing dungeon appeared. The noises they made were so frakkin' disturbing. I was glad they got their revenge on Amy and Landry gave the baby back to Anne.

Alan was so close to setting the Mother stump on fire. Typical of Peter to show up and steal his glory by setting the place ablaze. Good thing Jules found Alan and saved him from the fire. This series just wouldn't be the same without Billy Campbell.

Day 14 was certainly not something I was expecting. Got to love a bonus day! Everyone was off the island, finally, including Peter.

Navy Doctor: Dr. Sommer, you have something for us?
Kyle: Seventeen vials of mycosis cure.
Navy Doctor: We're not going to have time to run this through the normal drug testing protocol.
Kyle: You don't have to. This is the real deal.
Navy Doctor: Can you stake your life on it?
Kyle: I already have.
Navy Doctor: Well if what he's saying is the truth, we are going to save thousands of lives with this cure.
Soren: It's called Olivia.
Navy Doctor: Okay, we'll take good care of Olivia.

Ultimately, Jules learned that Peter turned Mother over to Claire of the Ilaria Corp (her former ally). Peter's smug expression was terribly irritating. Can you believe Ilaria was now denying the existence of Narvik C? Those slimy bastards! At least the a-hole was arrested.

Kyle provided Alan's mystery safety deposit box details to the FEDs. I was surprised to hear both Hatake and Alan engineered the virus and cure. Soren was the cure, that's why Alan hid him away on the island. I liked that little revelation.

Sarah's baby didn't make it, and Alan woke up with silver eyes. What?!? One last flash forward took us to 2029 and Ilaria had successfully controlled the human population. Who was in charge of the program? That's right, Sarah was now Ilaria.

With all the major players now immortal, would a potential Season 3 take place in the future?

What did you think of "O Brave New World"? Were there enough interesting twists to bring you back for more? How do you feel about Alan being immortal and Sarah's change of heart? You're up, please feel free to share your thoughts with me in the comments below. Let's talk Helix!
