It's officially the end for Star.
Series creator, Lee Daniels has revealed the popular Fox drama will not be getting a second chance at life following the network's decision to cancel it earlier this month.
“OK, so I’ve got some bad news: It ain’t happening,” Daniels says in a video he shared to Instagram.
“I tried my best, guys. You know, we got some incredible people. I mean, I can’t even list everybody. I’ll say it in a letter. But in a nutshell, it ain’t happening."
He continued, "I did my best. Just know that, like with Precious or with Empire … The Butler, Monster’s Ball, the next thing I do is going to be Star. It will exist in all of my work. I love you, all of the fans that have supported us.”
"Thank you guys for loving Star! I’m at a loss for words to describe my sadness," the executive producer captioned the video.
"So I’m gunna just say THANKS ....to my incredible cast and crew and FANS!!!! And a shout out to #foxtv for letting us into your homes every Wednesday 💫❤️
Daniels previously revealed that he was fighting to save the drama after being canceled after three seasons.
Star Season 3 averaged 3.5 million total viewers and a 1.1 rating, so there was an audience there.
The cancellation became possible after Fox became an independent broadcaster, meaning the network had to make new deals to keep all shows around.
The cast of Star included Jude Demorest as Star Davis, Brittany O’Grady as Simone Davis Rivera, Ryan Destiny as Alex Crane Jones, Amiyah Scott as Cotton Brown, Quincy Brown as Derek Jones, and Queen Latifah as Carlotta Renee Brown.
The show does exist in the same universe as Empire, so it's possible that there could be a wrap-up of sorts during an episode of Empire Season 6.
