Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18 Review: Lazarus

What. A. Disappointment.

The traitor was finally revealed on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18 and it wasn't anyone I was expecting.

Emily - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18

In fact, it was a character that was introduced earlier in the hour and unless you were paying close attention, you would have been left scratching your head when the big reveal was made.

For Designated Survivor to have made such a big flipping deal all week about who the traitor was and then giving us pretty much a nobody is quite aggravating.

What I was expecting was a true traitor. Like Jason.(I really thought it was going to be Jason.) Or Aaron. Even Chuck or General Cochrane would have been better than what's his name?

Oh, yeah. Jay Whitaker, Director of Homeland Security who was on screen for LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES when he was showing Hannah the flash drive information.

Granted, it's true that he's working in the White House and that he's CLOSE to Kirkman, but c'mon.

Shame on you, Designated Survivor.

Although I wanted to pull my hair out at that non-reveal, the fact that Whitaker works with Lozano was a surprising twist. I was thinking that there were two factions involved - Lozano's group and another group that was feeding Leonard information.

Turns out that there is only one group. And this one group now has Hannah because she got too close to finding out the truth.

I have to admit that my head is starting to hurt from this show. There are so many questions and no reasonable answers.

For example, why is a well-paid FBI agent staying at a seedy motel? Can't she afford something a little nicer in D.C.? That place looked like it was an off-the-highway hour-by-hour type motel.

She can't be that stupid. She's an FBI agent. Doesn't she know anything about safety?

What is the deal with the True Believers? They want Kirkman in office, but then they try to kill him and fail. Now they are going to "expose" him to the press?

They're the ones who put him in office in the first place. If you didn't want him there, why did you put him there?

Another thing that I'm finding extremely frustrating with this show is that we are continually introduced to new characters. Bowman a couple of weeks ago.

Now a new Senator or Representative or whoever the hell Hookstraten fired 12 years ago who's become a thorn in her and Kirkman's side...Liam somebody. And then there's Patrick Lloyd who looks like he's going to be a wacko.

One hour. Two new characters.

The Traitor - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18

Why can't we just keep with the core crew? At this point, we need scorecards in order to keep up with who's who.

It's not fair for the show to keep throwing new characters at us every time it wants to create drama or controversy.

On Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 17, we learned that Lozano was still alive. Many of us couldn't even remember who the guy was that stepped out of the helicopter was until Hannah told us.

That's a serious problem when you have to rely on Twitter or discussion groups or learn from a character who another character is. New characters should be introduced at the beginning of a series, not every other episode.

This isn't a show where you need a new bad guy every week, but yet, that's what we are getting.

Why couldn't they just have kept Cochrane on as the bad guy? Or kept Hookstraten on the questionable side instead of making her Kirkman's new best friend?

There were other things that happened this hour, but all I cared about was finding out who the traitor was. All the other political statements this show was trying to make did not hold my interest this time around.

I just don't care.

Oh, and let's not forget the great Ford product placement that happened when Hannah and Forstell were talking with Lloyd. That wasn't odd at all.

So what did you think? Are you satisfied with the traitor reveal? What's frustrating you about the show?

I just want to know what happened to Majid Nassar. Are you a good guy or bad guy?
