The CW is pressing the pause button on the Girl of Steel.

According to TV Line, Supergirl will return from its holiday break Monday, January 15 at 8/7c, but it will not be back for long.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow will take over from Supergirl on February 12 to unspool the final nine episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 3.

Supergirl will then return after an extended hiatus to finish Supergirl Season 3, but the break also means the show will be concluding outside of its usual May finale schedule.

Instead, the season finale will air June 18. It means that The CW will have 23 weeks of superhero fun without any interruptions.

No details have been given about the reason for Supergirl's hiatus, but it could be attributed to the fact that co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg was fired after an internal investigation that was brought on by claims of sexual harassment.

There's a good chance there will be a transitional period for the show as it tries to find a replacement for him. At the time of his firing, it was reported that Greg Berlanti was stepping in temporarily.

Initially, it looked like fans of DC's Legends of Tomorrow were going to have to wait until much later in the season to lay eyes on the final episodes of the season.

This was because Black Lightning was confirmed to be taking the time travel drama's slot to launch out of The Flash on January 16.

It's difficult to imagine the Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow switcheroo having anything to do with the ratings. Both shows are averaging a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and rank in the network's top five.
