Grey's Anatomy Round Table: Did Amelia Find Closure?

at .

It was all about Amelia on Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 21, and it was a lovely hour which showcased Amelia's growth and ended on a hopeful note.

Amelia the Movie was another of those classic bottle episodes, and a centric episode which was a breath of fresh air for the series. One thing we can all agree on is Amelia's sisters are a handful.

Join TV Fanatics Rachelle Lewis, Paul Dailly, and Jasmine Blu as they discuss the hour.

What would you rate Amelia the Movie? Do you think we learned more about her than we have?

Rachelle: It was a 5 in my book. I was disappointed with it. I felt like there was something missing the entire episode and I couldn’t put my finger on it.

I do feel like we learned more about Amelia, which I did like. Her sisters were terrible, and her mom basically ignored her after her father died, so I feel like her need to push people away is understandable.

Paul: I'd go with a 9! It was a change of pace, and I loved that Amelia got to meet her family. She was the black sheep of them, and it showed. The sisters were horrid.

Jasmine: I'll give it a 9, too. I enjoyed the mostly light tone, and I enjoyed getting to experience the Shepherd family dynamic.

Amelia's sisters were horrid, especially Kathleen. I was rooting for Amelia the entire time, and I felt like we saw how much she has grown from the girl they knew. And, oh my god, I loved Link supporting her.

Was the conversation with her mother the closure she needed?

Rachelle: I think it was the closure she needed. It was one of the saving grace points for me for the episode. I feel like it gave viewers more insight into why Amelia does not like to be vulnerable.

However, I don’t think it will change their relationship. Amelia needed to know she was loved by her mother, and lacking that love has caused her not to trust anyone who loves her.

Paul: I agree with Rachelle here. Amelia never speaks about her mother, and there are valid reasons for it.

Jasmine: I do think it was some much-needed closure. It's insane that it took this long for the two women to have that type of conversation. I do think it will improve their relationship.

Sometimes relationships are stronger as adults. Carolyn wasn't a mother to Amelia, and Amelia has paid the price for that in many aspects of her life, but I think they'll have at least a friendship now.

I loved what her mother said about being responsible for why Amelia is the way that she is but if Amelia doesn't make improvements from then on, it's on her.

Amelia and her Mom

On a scale of 1-10, how awful were her biological sisters? Do you think she'll ever make peace with them?

Rachelle: 10 for both of them. From the assumptions to failing to realize Amelia has grown -- all of it was terrible. I don’t blame her for not wanting to spend time with them; all they did was make fun of her and put her down.

I was happy she finally stood up to them, but I doubt they will ever make peace. Her sisters appear to be living in a delusional reality.

Paul: Yup. It's a 10 from me. The sisters didn't ever care to check in with Amelia. They assumed she was the same person she was all those years ago.

People change over time. Would it have hurt either of them to entertain the possibility that they were being too hard on her?

Jasmine: I agree, it's a solid 10 for me as well. They were the WORST. They were so childish and crossed so many lines.

Neither of them would acknowledge how she's changed since she was freaking 14-years-old. If Amelia never speaks or sees them again, it wouldn't bother me in the least. Sometimes you have to love people from afar.

Did Amelia opt for a riskier procedure in Jonah's case to prove herself?

Rachelle: 100% she did, and it is classic Amelia. She used medicine to prove her worth to Derek when he was alive. Now she used it to prove to herself she was not all those awful things her sisters said. Amelia needed to confirm to herself she had changed after her evening with her sisters.

Paul: Amelia was simply amazing in this episode, and it was very in character of her to go the risky route with Jonah. It worked out in the end.

Jasmine: Yeah, I do think she was doing it to prove something to herself and her sisters. She's also a natural risk-taker, too, and she seemed to like the boys and wanted the best for Jonah. I'm so happy it worked out; otherwise, I would've been a wreck.

What are your thoughts on Amelia and Link's relationship? Do you think he has feelings for her? Do you think they'll become something serious?

Rachelle: I like it; they have great chemistry, but I don’t think he is down for something so casual. I think he likes her and wants to see where things go; however she keeps him at arm’s length.

I am not sure if they will become more serious or not; however, I like that he seems to truly get her, and I admired how he stood up for her against her sisters.

She did cross a line with him when it came to the surgery, so I am interested to see how that impacts the relationship. I don’t think he completely accepted her apology on the plane.

Paul: They're a far more intriguing pairing than Meredith and DeLuca. That's a win in my book!

Link really stepped up to defend Amelia when she needed it the best. All couples have teething problems, but I'm sure these two are in it for the long haul.

Jasmine: Haha! Paul coming through with the shade, and I can't lie, I agree.

I'm kind of in love with Link right now, and I love the Amelia and Link relationship. He stood up for her and defended her, and he does seem to understand her. He's seen her during some of her most vulnerable moments, and he knew how to handle her in them.

She screwed up with him, but she apologized, and he accepted it. I do think he wants something more serious, and he's developing real feelings for her. I think she may practice opening up to him. I hope they become serious if it means Carmack will stick around and we can get off the Omelia merry-go-round.

What was your favorite quote and/or scene moment from the episode?

Rachelle: I had two favorite scenes. First is Amelia in the park with her mother. It was such a pivotal moment, and it was played beautifully by both actresses.

Second, the end where Amelia comes home to Meredith and Maggie, she realizes she does have family and sisters who accept and love her as she is. I liked how she let her guard down the second she was with the two of them.

Amelia Returns Home to Her Real Sisters

Paul: I'll go with Amelia and her mother in the park. There was a great deal of finality here, and it made the episode worth it.

Jasmine: Both of those moments were my favorite as well, Rachelle.

To switch things up though, I'll say I also loved the bow the brothers' bow, Brady trying to figure out what to do now that he no longer had to take care of Jonah, and of course, Link and Amelia eating the doughnuts after her fantastic apology.
