Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Finale Review: Hana Mao 'ole ka ua o Waianae (Endlessly Pours the Rain of Waianae)

at .

That's how you leave almost everything hanging on a cliffhanger.

It seemed like most storylines were either getting tied up or at least moving along on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25.

There was even going to be a nice kumbaya moment at the end.

Then that went all to hell.

More on that shock ending later.

Newbie Pilot - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

First came catching hacker Aaron Wright, whose nefarious intentjions had been revealed near the end of Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 24.

He had to have stashed all those cyber-weapons he had stolen from the NSA somewhere. Unfortunately, it turned out, for his accomplice, who was dumb enough to shake hands with a known killer who was wearing gloves.

That should have set off alarm bells, but no.

Along those "should have known better" lines, after Aaron's true colors had gotten revealed, shouldn't Jerry have thought to check for spyware? That seemed like a rookie mistake.

Botched Capture - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

For that matter, shouldn't McGarrett have ordered a system-wide security scan?

That shouldn't all have been on Jerry, even as computer semi-literate as the older team members are (especially Danny).

But Jerry more than made up for that goof, tracking down the woman Aaron had been dating, who gave up his storage unit, and figuring out that he was getting around on a motorcycle.

Aaron wasn't that easy to pin down, however. He still managed to escape after crashing his bike, as he caused a mall full of people to panic by setting off a ballistic-missile attack warning.

Since Hawaii went through a false such alarm back on January 2018, at the peak of Kim Jong-un's saber-rattling, that was a particularly effective evasive tactic.

It was Jerry to the rescue again, when he found out how Aaron was planning to escape.

I truly thought McGarrett might win that game of chicken with Aaron, but I guess plane trumps car every time.

Jerry turned the table on Aaron, dumping the fuel from his plane using a hack Aaron's brother Ian first employed back on Hawaii Five-0 Season 4 Episode 8.

Turnabout is fair play, ain't it?

Bad Decision - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

Mercenary Aaron was more than happy to give up his buyer if it meant that his lengthy prison time might get shaved a bit. Just don't allow him any electronic devices.

As feared, Junior's doing the right thing at the parole hearing, allowing his sister Maya's killer to get paroled, came back to bite him on the ass in a big way.

His father Natano wasn't returning his calls or texts. Worse yet, he had grabbed his handgun before he disappeared.

So when Junior's mother called, he had to leave behind a critical investigation to hunt for his father, before Natano did something stupid.

Junior used all the investigative skills he had gained from Five-0 to locate Natano exactly where anyone would expect him to be -- outside of the drunk driver's house..

Fortunately, he lacked the nerve to follow through on exacting revenge. But disowning Junior for doing what Maya would have wanted to get done was the wrong decision.

The Divide Deepens - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

All that effort Junior put in bridging the gap with Nataro went right out the window.

Of course, Junior went to Tani's house for consolation.

What happened afterward is what was left hanging. Did those two finally get together as a result? Wait until next season to find out.

Next on the topic of new romance was Adam and Tamiko.

I think they work as a couple. He's still getting over losing Kono while she's still recovering from the murder of her undercover FBI fiance.

But they have history and are comfortable together, and that could easily go to romance from the friends' zone.

It's time for Adam. He's done more than enough penance, and it's not even his fault that Kono isn't on Oahu any longer. So doesn't he deserve to be happy?

Growing Closer - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

Finally, there was renewed romance.

Danny and Rachel went away together, to see if they could again be a couple as well as co-parents.

It was a funny scene when Danny grudgingly told McGarrett to where and why he had gone away. Steve kept prying, but the close-mouthed Danny admitted to little.

I figured Danny was going to announce they had gotten remarried, but no. Their rekindling is also going to get dragged out.

Or their getting remarried could happen over the summer and be mentioned in passing early next season. After all, his and McGarrett's girlfriends just seemed to disappear while the show was on hiatus.

It also seemed like the Joe White storyline was coming to final resolution.

Final Mission - Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 25

First came the touching scene when Frank Bama agreed to scatter Joe's ashes over Joe's favorite region of Vietnam for Steve.

Then Omar Hassan's widow called to ask to meet with McGarett to apologize for the attack of Steve's SEAL team that resulted in Joe's death back on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 10.

First, McGarrett should have been suspicious from the get-go.

Second, don't they have metal detectors at The Palace?

I suppose that gun could have been plastic or been made on a 3D printer.

It was very effective fading to black just after the shot rang out.

I fear that Jerry took the bullet for Steve, and he'll be in critical condition when next season opens.

At least I hope Jerry isn't on the way out.

McGarrett has had so many injuries through the years that I don't think he could stand up to something as serious as a gunshot wound at close range.

To be tided over until next fall, watch Hawaii Five-0 online.

Which couples do you favor?

Didn't Jerry stand out in the episode after a bad start?

Were you shocked by the ending?
